  • 2006, a review

    The year in review,
    in haiku,
without the poo! (here we go.)

    Advanced abacus
    A new computer for me.
    The spoils of my birth.

    A year of traffic.
A new year and a new state.
    Hello Virginia.

    Suzumiya-san
A new god walks among us.
    Welcome to the West.

    Song of Happiness
    A Magical Melody
    The best Harvest Moon.

    Flying Spaghetti
    A new convert emerges.
    Hail the noodled one!

    Australia mourns.
The loss of a great symbol.
    Goodbye Steve Irwin.

    A new year is here.
    A time for resolutions
    To be forgotten.

(Geez, I am definitely not a poet.)

  • Nuckin' Futs

I have a feeling that if anybody ever asks me how to describe 2006, this song would probably come to mind...

Also, for those who asked, Onegai Teacher was good. Not exactly great, but good. I would recommend it if you watch this kind of genre (romantic-comedy), but not otherwise.

  • Double-Whammy

I saw two great news articles not too long ago. Both involved health and the human body. No, don't turn away! It's important. First of all, lets begin with this article (reference, foo). It seems that video gamers of today no longer have to live in fear of losing their hands. Doctors in Valencia have successfully managed to replace a woman's hands. Let me repeat that for you, they replaced her hands! Both her hands were amputated previously, but she is just now getting new ones. There must be a waiting list, but it's probably not as long as waiting for a Wii.

In other news, it seems that television can be something of a painkiller (Mr. Reference). Scientists in Italy ran a study with a group of children where they drew blood from them.  They were divided in to three groups. One group was ostricised, and presumably left for dead in the wilderness somewhere. The second group got to stay with their mothers, where they probably received nothing more than cooes and shushes from them. The last group got to watch cartoons. The article was not clear on exactly what cartoons, but I can only assume it was something good like, I dunno, Swat Kats or something. Do they even show that anymore? Geez. Anyway, it seems that the children who got to watch cartoons felt less pain than any of the other kids. Now the scientists are trying their hardest to send the message saying, "oh, don't pay us any heed. We do not recommend placing your kid in front of a TV for hours at a time. Seriously, don't do it!" Ah well, those are scientists for you.

  • The Room of a Poor College Geek

Welcome everyone, to my room! (graphic intensive)

Yes, it is my room. It's not a great room, but I occupy it for maybe 98 percent of my day when I don't have work or school. You will notice on the left is my gaming chair, complete with tush pillow for extra comfort. In the center you will also see my bed. Take note, the only reason it is made is because I am taking a picture of it. This maybe marks only the second day I have ever made it since I moved here. To your far right you will notice...

My primary gaming station. You will notice that each of my gaming consoles are represented here. You have the PS2 by the TV, the NES, Genesis, and N64 down below, and the Gamecube to the right. Also, there are some books and a Haruhiism print-out to the left. If you move further left, you run into...

My computer desk. Not much of a computer desk, but it does what it's supposed to. Namely, it holds my computer off of the floor. Not much to say here really. Before you ask, it's Steely Dan that I was playing at the time of this photo. And yes, I have two printers. Don't ask.

To the (very) immediate left, you run into my bed. Literally. If you look at the picture just before this one, you can see how close my bed actually is to my computer desk. Anyway, on my headboard is about 90% of my manga. What doesn't fit, I slide under my bed. Then, of course, there is my copy of The Gospel of the Flying Spaghetti Monster. Lastly, my awesome high school diploma that I worked so hard(ly) to get.

Again, to the immediate left (I have a small room), you see my DVD tower. These make up about two-thirds of my collection. Again, the rest are under my bed. I'll let you look through the movies and critique them to your heart's content. Frankly, I'm way too lazy to list them all.

Here is my dresser. Well, the top of my dresser anyway. The bottom part is rather boring. What with all the drawers and what-have-you. Anyway. This kind of acts like my nightstand / bookstand. A couple of select books make it to the top of my dresser. Several others are down in their boxes in the basement. I would love to have them all in my room, but I simply do not have the space.

Here is a picture of my partially completed units for Warhammer 40k. It doesn't really have anything to do with my room at all. I just felt like taking a picture of the lot... ... ... Moving along then!

Lastly, here is a picture of my porcelain throne. Yes, it's quite the lovely toilet, isn't it?

  • I've Got Nothin'

    IT'S A TRAP!

Sorry, I've got nothing today. I'll try to have something tomorrow.

EDIT: Wait, there is something I want to say today! There is now a Harvest Moon manga! It chronicles the opening of the soon to be released Harvest Moon: Something About an Island for the DS. Here's a link to an English translation: t3h 4w3$oM3||e55. Also, you may remember a few posts ago when I mentioned those Harvest Moon hand puppets. Well, here you are. Don't blame me if your ears bleed...

  • Jimbo's Awesome Christmas Spectacular

Okay, perhaps that title is a bit of a stretch. Anyway, today I hope to list some of my spoils of Jesus' birth and give you some of my initial reactions to them. Cheers!

    • Black & White 2 (PC) ~ I tried this game not too long ago, but the CD was corrupted or something. This time, however, the CD worked and I was in business. This looks to be an excellent game. You can become the god you always wanted to be. The game, sadly, seems to be something of a glitch-a-palooza. They must have rushed the game because there are several problems. Most of them minor gripes, but last night I had a pretty lousy one where I completely lost control of the camera. It would constantly spin and not stop regardless of what I did. I'm working on getting the patches as I write this.
    • Kingdom Hearts II (PS2) ~ I played, and actually beat, this game before. I even posted about it (too lazy to find a link). Nevertheless, it was maybe a year ago, so I seem to have forgotten most of what happened. This is good though because it allows me to enjoy the game as though it is brand new. That being said, this is a great game!
    • Midori Days: The Handheld Collection (DVD) ~ Finally, I own this anime. I have been trying to get the DVDs for this show since it was licensed. Now, thankfully, they released the entire series in one $30 collection. It's great because it's all a pun! Anyway, this is one of my favorite series ever and encourage you all to make the purchase too. Then, tell your friends! Then they can tell their friends' friends. News of this awesome anime will spread faster than any STD!
    • Simpsons Talking Keychain (Keychain) ~ Oh yeah! I am so TOTALLY bringing this in to work. With phrases like "Argh! Natural light! Get it off me. Get it off me!" by Barney, how can you go wrong?
    • 3 Boxes of Peeps (Food) ~ Mmm... Peeps... It seems I'm going to be diabetic by the new year.
    • Clothes (Clothes) ~ Why do parents insist on getting children clothes? It just sucks the joy out of opening presents. I think clothes should be presented the day after, so kids don't open any gifts and try to act cheerful as they hold up a pair of pants for the camera.

There you have it folks: my holiday round-up. I hope to return to my regularly scheduled posts tomorrow.

  • Merry Christmas ya'll!

I know I make fun of religion a lot, and I may be a devout Pastafarian, but I still hold a place in my heart for the Christmas holiday. It's not for religious reasons, not even greedy reasons (well, okay. Not entirely), but it's about tradition. I have always celebrated Christmas since I was born, and will continue to do the same. I hope all of you readers out there enjoy your holiday and come back tomorrow when I give a rundown of my spoils. RAmen.

  • Think Pink

I remember a few posts ago, I did an online quiz that told me that my hair color should be pink (here it be). I looked back on this yesterday and thought, "okay, I'll just make a quick doodle of myself, then give myself pink hair." I did, and all I can say is...

Not in a million friggin' years.

  • Afro Pizza Cats?

As you all know, Snakes on a Plane is being released on DVD on January 2nd. What else does Samuel L Jackson have in store for us now? Two words... Afro Samurai.

Word on the street is that very shortly he will be doing the voice-acting for an anime by this name. The story goes that Mr. Jackson viewed a demo DVD, then asked GDH president Shinichiro Ishikawa to visit him on the set of his current film... in Toronto. No, I am not kidding. I can only hope it was all expenses paid. Anyway, as soon as he arrived, Mr. Jackson stopped everything, ran up to him, and said point-blank "don't let anyone else to Afro Samurai!" I don't know much about it except that it airs on Spike TV on the 4th of January. It looks interesting, though not necessarily unique. I'll try to look into it if I can. I will keep you posted.

  • Oh My Haruhi!

The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya has been licensed by Kadokawa Pictures and is being distributed by Bandai! What does this mean exactly? Well, hopefully the voice acting won't be too bad!

Startling announcement #2: The last Harry Potter book title has been announced. It is officially called Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows! What does this mean exactly? I have no clue.

Startling announcement #3: The Vatican is considering making a soccer (football to everyone that's not American) team. What is their team name? That has yet to be determined, but I'm rooting for the Vicars of Christ.

Startling announcement the last (I swear): New Shrek movie!
