  • Such thin pages

Yesterday, I finally broke down and purchased a Bible for myself. I figured that if I was going to take my New
    Year's resolution
seriously, I may as well get it out of the way
early. I actually asked my dad if I could borrow his Bible, but he could not
find it anywhere in the house. This shows just how religious my household is.
So I was in the bookstore, Borders, and they had this handy little index on the
shelf that helped you pick the "bible that was just for you". It
recommended that I pick up a study bible: one that has a little bit of text per
page, while the remaining eighty-percent is footnote. After a long and arduous
selection process, I finally picked up the NIV (Not Important Version) Study
Bible because it was cheapest. I say it was cheapest, but even then it ran me
thirty bucks. Outside of my college textbooks, this easily makes it one of the
most expensive books in my library. I realize in hindsight that I probably
could've just stopped into any church and asked for a Bible. They would have
probably given me three of them. The Bible is now next in line in my queue of
books to read. It should be interesting to read the entire thing, if only to
say that I, as an atheist/Pastafarian, have read the entire Bible cover to
cover, which is something not even most Christians have done (I think the
statistic is around forty-percent in the US). Onward to the Garden of Madness!

  • Hm.. I have a Catholic Study Bible (Oxford I think; for class last semester) and I didn't sell it back just because even off Amazon it was expensive and it is really pretty. XD
I have like 3 King James Bibles at home, all sorta different. I haven't really found the difference in reading the two types but I hear that some words are slightly different.

In all honesty, if you want to really understand the Bible I'd suggest taking some Theology classes. I had already read the Bible a few times before taking Theology last semester and I got a lot more out of the 3 books of the Bible that we read in that class than any of my leisurely reads.

  • When i had to buy my bible, i just went to a used book store and payed like 4 bucks for it. You migh consider reading the Apocryphal Gospels too, there a bunch of stories that just didnt make the cut for the bible. Am doing a paper around one of the stories in it as i type. [ah crap why am i writing another religous text essay?]

And i wasnt putting down video games, or any of the things i listed am simply stating that, in my opinion, people who wear Hawiian shirts are more likly to play video games. That doesnt mean that they are good or bad. And if i am ever in the stat that you currently reside, beware there is a chance I'll hunt you down and burn all of your Hawiian shirts, for the betterment of society.

  • I'm not sure about the US, but in the UK you get them chucked at you for free. If you walked into any church and asked the pastor/bishop/priest/whatever they'll give you one for free. Even if you're completely uninterested and only needed it for a Religious Ed assignment *ahem*. Plus when it was Fresher's week they chucked them at students who were passing by. An aquaintance of mine got three apparently. Luckily, I think I have a constant look on my face that says "don't come near me" and so I didn't get any random bibles shoved into my palms.
