  • The Book List

While my favorite mode of time wasting will always be playing video games and watching anime, I still consider myself a bookish person. I enjoy reading and try (with little success) to get others around me to read. Here are some of the books I have been reading over this past year. Not many, I know, but, well... see the beginning of the first sentence.

Books I have read so far this year (as in, I have read for the first time):

    • Blasphemy - Douglas Preston (fiction)
    • The Year of Living Biblically - AJ Jacobs (non-fiction)
    • Twilight - Stephanie Meyer (fiction)
    • New Moon - Stephanie Meyer (fiction) ...I can't believe I read two of these things.
    • Child 44 - Tom Rob Smith (fiction)
    • Me of Little Faith - Lewis Black (non-fiction?)
    • The Language of God - Francis Collins (non-fiction (mostly))
    • Atheist Universe - David Mills (non-fiction)
    • My School Textbooks (lol, yeah right)

    Books I am Currently Reading:

    • Nothing's Sacred - Lewis Black (non-fiction?)
    • Handy Religion Answer Book - John Renard (non-fiction)
    • Science and Nonbelief - Taner Edis (non-fiction)

Books I have in my possession and plan to, at some point, get around to reading:

    • The Bible - various authors (holy)
    • The Qur'an - Muhammad and/or Gabriel (theoretically) (holy)
    • The Poetic Edda - various authors (holy)
    • A History of God - Karen Armstrong (non-fiction)
    • The Gospel of Judas - Judas (holy?)
    • The Selfish Gene - Richard Dawkins (non-fiction)
    • The Origin of Virtue - Matt Ridley (non-fiction)
    • Eastern Philosophy - Kevin Burns (non-fiction)
    • Candide - Voltaire (fiction)
    • My School Textbooks (lol, still ain't happenin')

  • How was that David Mills book? I skimmed it and didn't seem like a big deal.

I have read 8 books this year, all non-fiction.

    1. Mind and Nature - Gregory Bateson (difficult as fuck)

    2. Principles of Wicca - Vivianne Crowley

    3. The Wisdom of Confucius (I forgot the author)

    4. The Unitarian Universalist Pocket Book (various authors)

    5. After This - Marcus Engel

    6. The Satanic Bible - Anton Lavey

    7. The Demon-Haunted World - Carl Sagan

    8. The Age of Reason - Thomas Paine

  • @In_Reason_I_Trust - I've been dying to read The Demon-Haunted World. The David Mills book was actually pretty good. It doesn't go very in-depth, but it provides a lot of "talking points" if you get into arguments some-what often. I thought the Francis Collins book was pretty good too. It was supposed to show that religion and science can gel together, but seemed to do the opposite and prove how religion isn't all that necessary.

  • Haha, thanks.
A.J. Jacobs.... Hey I have "The Know-It-All" by him!  Hmm... I think I've heard of that one of yours... something about the Song of Solomon comes to mind, and I could see that being played out in real life.  Good luck with the list!
