  • Communism! Everybody panic!

Folks, we have a serious problem facing our country. It is nothing less than a socialist takeover of our country's knowledge. I am speaking of the mere existence of so-called public libraries. These GOVERNMENT-FUNDED institutions offer FREE and SHARED books. Since the government funds these filthy institutions, they have practically complete control over everything. THEY will control WHAT BOOKS YOU READ! They will control WHO HAS ACCESS TO KNOWLEDGE!

We, as Americans, do not need these filthy, socialist libraries. We already have a perfectly good private means of acquiring knowledge. It's called a bookstore. We have the greatest bookstore system on the planet, and the government is trying to overtake it with a library system that nobody wants. If the poor can't afford books, then they are obviously not working hard enough. How many of you have visited these libraries and compared them to bookstores? The shelves are dusty, the staff is old, and the books are poorly kept. This is the kind of government institution we are leaving our children. We should protect our bookstores, which are clean, youthful, and full of energy. They have only the best books, as the free market pressures them to keep up. Libraries feel no such pressure and are able to stagnate as they sap away precious dollars from the FREE-MARKET bookstores.

We must take a stand. These SOCIALIST libraries need to be stopped. Join me! Picket your local library today. Tell them we do not want government interventions with our most important resource: knowledge.

  • Huzzah! I'll get the markers and poster board! It's really great to have someone finally see what these libraries are really doing to help America. Say, have you ever thought about applying at FOX News?

  • Damn libraries! While we're at it, let's get rid of public schools too. If they can't afford it, their problem. Lazy bastards.

  • And the truth shall make you free...

  • I've already burned down my local library and forcibly deported the librarian to France!  I don't even think she speaks French!  Joke's on her!

What have you done for your country?

  • @misuriver - Like public schools and libraries, if socialized medicine is what the people want, it should be provided by more representative state and local governments...not the ever so distant Federal government.

  • It's not a good analogy...you can't share health care like you can a book...you can confisicate the labor/wages of one person to provide health care for another person and redistribute the cost...but health care cannot possibly be provided at no cost.

A real apples to apples comparison...would be a resturaunt vs a soup line...because like food...health care is something not borrowed but consumed.

  • @Stoltz13 - While I did draw very heavily from the health care debate, my main goal was to satire cries of communism and socialism. I did like your soup line vs. restaurant comparison though.

  • @Stoltz13 -  I didn't say anything about socialized medicine. Way to not take a joke.

  • @Jimbo1023 - Thanks.  I think this country has been on a steady march towards Marxism that started way before Obama took office.  As who does value my liberty as an individual...it concerns me.  But...I'm not paranoid or panicking...I just hope to educate people on a few key economic principles and explain why individual liberty must always be coupled with individual responsibility.  btw...I appreciate the tone of your response, makes me think that you must be a pretty easy going person.

@misuriver - I guess I never thot it was wrong to respond seriously, even to a joke...but I guess I could be wrong?  I am aware that you didn't mention socialized medicine...but the health care debate is a large part of the inspiration for this blog post...so can you fault me for skipping a few steps and cutting to the chase?
